Default Lowering a softail std......

Thinking about lowering the rear on my FXST. I ride 2 up a lot so is this not a good idea. There are shock kits & 2" lowering kits that are cheap but do they work well?

Feedback appreciated, TIA!

They move if that's what you mean?
As far as dampening the bumps, they are harsh, but then again I was going for the look not the smoothness of the ride.
I ride solo with an occassional passenger.
Bike handles LOTS better since lowering the front.

Go ahead and don't worry, I lowered mine using the kit from Harley and it dropped it about 1.5 inches. I do a bit of two up riding and don't have any problems cornering and it doesn't bottom out, I weight in at 300 and my passenger is 130, and like I said no problems.
Hell, most guys are like only 180 with a 120 pound passenger and that's my weight riding solo. Anyway, best of luck with whatever you decide.

They work fine, I used the Ness kit on my 07 Heritage. Not the easiest thing in the world to install if you're not born under the sign of the wrench, so you may want to have a buddy watch your six.
It will ride a little harsher, like already stated...but MAN does it look cool!

Holy Crap! I've been draggin my 93 softail through the corners for 15 years and have always looked for a way to get more travel. Not less! Guess it's all in the way you ride!

What kit did you use & did you change the rear shocks too?

I lowered the rear of my Softail custom 2" with the Progressive Suspension 413 adjustable replacement shocks. Greatly improves the look of the bike, but it does ride a little harsh. I'm willing to give up the softer ride for a better looking ride. Still handles and corners great even with my 140# passenger - I go about 260. I left my front end suspension stock.
