I loosened the nut and the adjuster fell to the bottom. Should it slide up easily on it's own or do you stick a screwdriver under the shoe to move it or what? I got a long screwdriver out. Tips or tricks?
Oops, been there done that...It will not slide up as easily as it slid down.
I used a scribe with a 90* bend at the point to pull it up. The trick is to pull both sides at the same time. If you get it cocked, even just a little, it will not want to slide.
Another trick is to cut a coat hanger, bend it double to make a handle. Then put two 90* bends in it to hook the shoe and pull it up. Once straight it slides easily....
Make sure it ain't too tight. It'll seem loose till the motor heats up. If it's too tight cold, it'll be like a guitar string hot due to the centers move away from each other. The bearings don't like it tight.
