After starting it and stopping it 50 times; hell, I'd be ready for another battery
Yep, so see your dealer or just be aware that you may have that annoying light for most of the riding season.
As long as the light goes back out it is just indicating a historic event. If it stays on, you have a current problem.
The dealer service department should be able to clear it with the HD patented "Scanalyzer" for a modest sum of money. And I would make them clear all codes before returning it to me from service.
Well, I am having the same problem and my Fatboy (2000 carb model) just stopped running as well.
I noticed the same error in the form of an "historic code". The normal 4 second engine light comes on when the ignition is switched on, then goes off. A couple of seconds later the 8 second engine light comes on. Local dealer said will likely clear after 50 starts.
Well, over the weekend the bike ran well in the morning and in the afternoon it crapped out. Plugs were fouled and so I swapped them out. New plugs fouled almost immediately. Bike will idle somewhat but quites under a load. No recent changes were made.
Factory manual says stored error code is either 1) several of bad ICM codes; or 2) crank and cam have gone out of synch. Given the fouled plugs and error code I suspect the ICM is bad.
I say this because not but a week before I went on a 400 + mile ride in the middle of nowhere, because the dealer said the code not a worry. Well, it has turned into a worry.
If your bike runs ok then its probably just a history code. My 03 RoadKing does it occasionally and it takes the mech at the dealer about 5 minutes to clear. I have found it happens when on starting the bike sometimes your finger slips off the button and it doesnt start or my dyslexic fingers twitch and it just bumps the starter. So far this has happened 3 or 4 times and its no big deal. I would have them hook up the scanalyzer to be sure though. When it happens now i know it and just have them clear it next time i stop in.
