How has your taste in Harleys changed/shifted/evolved over the years?
I hated the Peanut-tank Sporty, preferred the slightly more stretched-out tank & more "classic Harley" look. Now the Peanut-tank Sporty is a thing of beauty to me, just as long as it's fitted with mid or forward controls. The Sporty Custom just really doesn't do anything for me anymore, except for it's larger fuel tank.
I hated the rear fender on the Deuce and VROD. Now, the VROD's my dream bike, but I'd take a Deuce if one came along.
I thought the Road Glide was ugly as sin. Now it's in a tie with the Street Glide for my preferred touring bike.
What have you discovered about your preferences for different Harleys?
I started withe a Dyna, then a Heritage, then Ultra Classic and now a Road Glide. It is funny how your tastes change. I may change again one day but after having a radio, I'm not sure that is something that I'd like to do without.
Good topic.I thought I would never like a dresser, but I love my eg and would not go back to the hardtail bare bones bikes I used to ride.I have given in some what to my roots with getting a Nightster, but I put bags and a windshield on the darn thing,I have always liked Sportsters, the Nightster was a good choice for me,but with riding it to work and around I just can't get along without places to put my junk, don't know how I ever rode so much without a windshield.Ah the joys of growing old!
First experience was with an early 50's beast that I can't ID by model from memory. But is was "full dress" as we used to say plus what seemed like hundreds of pounds of even more stuff hanging on the old yellow cruiser..
At the end of a long twisty road with other HDs and a dozen other makes of lighter weight bikes, it has evolved into a preference for HDs that are:
A. Really big,
B. Really heavy,
C. Touring sofas,
D. That play tunes,
oh, and:
E. Have hundreds of pounds of other stuff hanging on them.
Sporty peanut is less attractive than it used to be. Still hate lace wheels.
Road Glide is greatly overtaking the old Flagship of the street glide in my eyes for touring, and I'm less enthralled with the road king than I used to be (build a dyna instead, or go full bagger). turn signals still go on the tree, not on the bars, and radios are silly.

Southpaw Super Glide: A Left-Hand-Drive 1979 Harley FXE Built to Fit the Rider
well when i was young, about 30 years ago, i road a sporty hardtail and thought a springer front end would be the hot ticket. but now i ride a softail with a wideglide and love it. so i went from a hardtail sporty to a softail custom.
I have lost all interest in the newest and greatest that comes along and have gone back to a early evo and am look'n for a shovel to park next to the fxr.Alway liked the peanut tank just not haveing to stop so often. But thats ok today. I have had several baggers and dyna's with a fl and evo sporty . But just flat love the fxr. It has more seat room than my 05 e-glide and the best handeling of any harley.Know more new hd's for me.
