yeah, it can be a little more effort than summer, but some long johns, or an aerostich suit, and its all good.
tonight was the first rainy ride of the late summer. the first time it feels like fall, when you know the winter is coming. i like it. i think i naturally prefer standard time over daylight savings time anyway.
things i like about riding in the winter/fall:
more motorcycle parking! most of the time, the weather is ok, heck lot of great riding days and nights that you dont want to miss. and plenty of room on the helmet shelf of the best bars.
i think the more people that ride the better, but still in the winter, it feels like an exclusive club again. im conflicted on this, but i like it. there is nothing quite as nice as lanesplitting past someone with motorcycle stickers all over their pickup truck while you're on your sweet ride.
lastly, spring looks pretty different in the saddle than it does in a pickup truck.
northern california winters can be mild or they can be really wet and sleety. its not buffalo, but most of motorcycles seem to end up getting garaged anyway. their loss.

Here, Here!!! I agree 100%. Most of my riding is done in the winter. Northern AZ in the high country can get down into the teens and lower starting in November. I love it when I'm home and ride down to my local Scooter Bar to find I am the only bike in the parking lot but go inside and see all these guy's and gal's with their leathers on looking like they just climbed off their bikes.
One time I asked a couple of guys I know "where did they move the bike parking to? I didn't see any bikes out front but looks like allot of you rode in". They proceeded to tell me what a dumb *** they thought I was and we had a good time. I rode home with a BIG cold smile on my face.
Hopefully I'll be out there freezing my *** off again in a few more weeks.
If it were not for the black ice,or getting caught in a snow squal,a lot more Northerners would try riding all year.I did just once it was almost suicidal.Have fun
I like winter riding. We have had some strange weather here in South Jersey. Not many days below 30 and no real snow in like 4 years. Hopefully this winter will be the same as the last. I'll be able to ride as much as I want.
Rain and cold is fine, it's the snow and ice I have a problem with. Thank God we don't get much of the later two here on the coast. Just wind and rain.
you guys from the South talking about winter riding crack me up. As Dog said, it's just not an option with snow and ice on the road.
I have to assume you bring it up just to rub it in since we just had our first snow storm. Oh well, I'll keep reading this forum until the spring as a proxy for actually riding.
