Default Dyna Vs. Softail

I am considering buying a new bike. I do not have any experience with HD before so the two bikes that I am considering are street bob Vs. a cross bones. I would love to get some feedback from anybody who has experience on either of them or both of them that would be perfect.

Any input on that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Airbusflyer

Get both.....I doubt that will help!

Anyway, get what suits your needs. You can easily go to a dealer and do a test ride on anything you are interested in so long as you have an MC endorsement on your license and some kind of proof of vehicle insurance. The dealers in my area have "open houses" all the time equipped with B-B-Q barrels and sometimes "dancing girls" to get prospective buyers in for test rides. Many a ride has been sold during those "open house" meets!
Always "try it on" before you buy!

Rent each bike for a day and see which you like best...

I'm not a fan of the X-Bones off the showroom floor as I don't like the seat and rear fender. But I saw one at the dealer with a normal seat (not a spring seat) on it and it really did alot for the looks.

I prefer Softails myself for visual reasons as well as liking the counterbalanced rigid mounted motor. Personally I like the lines of a Softail rear end better than the exposed shocks and swingarm.

Either way it's all personal preference. Rent or test ride if they'll let you.

I rode a street bob about 100 miles in the hills around San Diego and really liked the bike - EXCEPT when idling at a stop.... the vibration was so bad, I couldn't see behind me in the mirrors. the bike has cool lines.

then I rode a Fatboy - that cinched it. I love the lines and the smooth idle the balanced motor gives it. I got one.

the x-bones is pretty hot - but not with that tractor seat. I do like the springer front end - but, Im not a fan of blacked out bikes - I like the chrome.

good advice - rent both and see which one suits you.

I wish my electra glide had a softail engine in it.
I owned a softail before (fatboy) and enjoyed it allot.

The street bob is a great bike, but be forewarned that the rear passenger pegs transmit vibration. My fiance has complained about this on numerous occasions. At first I thought it was all in her head, but I finally kicked a foot back onto the left peg during a solo ride, and I was amazed at how much vibration there was.

Pegs on the swingarm are transmitting engine vibes; pegs attached to the frame, like earlier Dynas, are isolated by the engine mount system

Well in my option a "Softtail" is for a soft tail if you get my drift.
