Removing powder coat
I have some triple trees that were powder coated over chrome and I want to remove the powdercoat, can I burn it off with a torch, I have a torch I use for roofing and it doesn't get that hot yellow flame can I use this to get the powder off
ahhh this is fun... i media blast it... if i am at home and do not have the media cabinet... i will hit it with some air craft stripper... from here it will get slimey and goo like... i scrape it off from here... any thing left i hit with a wire wheel (fine steel) takes time but if you are patient you can get it... do not just try to wire wheel it cause it will groove it... are you going to re coat them? if so you can heat them up and then lay another layer of powder on.... just heat it up at like 450... for 5-7 min... put in your trees till the powder begins to wet... then pull it out and powder it with the new color... then set your oven back to 400 and bake for 12-20 min... will be smooth as glass... some powders require diff setting on the oven... this works for me... i do it on my bikes... for customers i strip to the metal to ensure that it is perfect and does not have a huge build up of powder...

their is not chrome under it... if the powder coater was ANY good at all there is not at least... you have to media blast chrome before you can powder it... as said above you can media blast and polish it... hell after i polish stuff i powder it clear to maintain the look!
