I don't ride side by side in the same lane with anyone. Period. Just isn't safe, IMHO. Backing off the throttle is what I'd do.

I never ride side by side either. Staggered or nothing!

I like to ride side by side on the wide open road when there is NO traffice, otherwise I ride staggard. Even with my wife who rides her own and I know her skills and her mine, just better off safe in allot of traffice to be staggard.
I agree with PT, just back off the throttle alittle enough to let them go forward and then fall back into the staggard postion, they will get the hint

IMHO easing off the throttle is really the best option. If you speed up the other person might speed up also. Then your going faster with someone you don't know beside you. Very dangerous situation either way. People need to be thinking "what if" at all times.

Turn head that direction, and spit. j/k

Carry a broomstick with you and stick it in the front wheel.

to start off: +1 PT and Twiggy

second: why do men (I am one, and don't understand) think that that kind of bull behavior is cool?

Always staggered at highway speeds. Anybody who has the audacity to pull up next to a rider they don't know doesn't have a clue!

When someone attempts to ride side by side with me, I simply back off and let them move ahead.

don't like sharing a lane with someone. especially not on a heavy interstate. i would stagger always. exceptiont to that is like starting off at a light, i might be next to someone for a bit, but we quickly get into a stagger position.

whenever i am in a situation i don't like, i do what i can to remove myself from that situation. slow down, change lanes, get off. whatever. and then if he should follow you, get his license plate and report him.

Had that happen this past weekend. Bike pulls up beside me on a two lane highway doing 55 and stays there for about a mile. I look down at his pipes and start pointing at his muffler and shaking my head no. He slows down and pulls off the road. I keep riding laughing my azz off because there wasn't nothing wrong with his muffler. I still wonder how long it took him to figure it out.
