Just have to ask and I am sure I'm not the only one. But has anybody been on the highway and have a rock kicked up by am 18 wheeler and smash into your bike? Its happened to me twice in the past two months. The first time it hit the windshield, no real damage just an almost invisible mark. But the second time, a half a penny size chip on the fuel tank! I heard a loud bang, then I could feel a rock between my thigh and seat near the tank. Didn't notice the chip till I detailed the bike a week later. The only saving grace is that it is near the seat and ALMOST on the bottom of the tank. But I know its there, makes me sick! Time to order some touch-up paint which never really matches. Just had to vent. Feels worse after spending alot of $ on chrome/upgrade this Spring.
I was riding through Pikeville, KY on my way to the Dragon last year, when a piece of coal flew off a coal truck and hit the front fender of my RK. When I stopped for gas in VA, I found it had chipped a place the size of a dime. I had to have the whole fender painted.
Yep i know that feeling. Found a dime sized rock chip on my dynas tank last fall. Right up front looked really bad. The moco clearcoat is very thick and brittle with poor adhesion to the base coat so what should be a small nik turns into a real problem. my soloution was to strip the tins to bare steel and refinish with sikkens products.
If'n a bike ain't got chips and other marks of the road, it oughtta be sold!
After I realized my bikes were getting so torn up from riding I started painting them with spray bombs. That way it doesn't hurt so much. I can do fatbobs and fenders for about $25. Lasts 2 years usually, which equates to about 40 - 50k miles on average.
Yeah, I keep telling myself that. But this is the first real mark I have received on the bike. It does go with the territory, but darn it hurts! I'll be picking up touch up paint this week from HD and "fix" it. I am actually surprised there are no dings on my fender, but I guess give it time, huh?
