i have anoffer to trade my basically stock 02 softail FXSTi with lots of ad ons for a 89 custom softail . heres the thing mine is basically stock and his is a evo with a 112 inch motor with a Magna Supercharger on it . also has a aftermarket fram so its streched out like a chopper but not bad alil more then mine .. but bike is Lower and sitting on it it feels super comfortable like mine but better cause his has forward contraols and i have long legs .. i ride my bike alot but wanna build a nice 100 is hp engine eventually and his is well into the 120-130 hp with tons of torque . im gonna test ride it this week to see if i like the ride .. motor and supercharger have been gone thru (6500.00 rebuild) so engine is fresh . i rode with the guy today during the Toys for tots bike run in town and bike is fast and looks fun to ride .. has about 50K total into build of bike mostly motor . im gonna try n post a pic of his bike and mine together .. let me know what you think . im seriously thinking of doing it
Do what you want. Depends on what you like. Are you a good mechanic or know a good mechanic? My experience has always been the more hp and wick twisting = more intimate wrench time. Just my two bits.
I would keep the one you have for less headaches and worries of being stuck on the side of the ride. I ride my bike and want it to be dependable. I don't care to have a bike just to show the performance stuff on it at shows or bike nights.
why is the guy trading? If you think he is trading "DOWN"....he isn't.
Why would a guy wih a nice bike like his, want your crappy bike? (Just a metphor. You know what I mean)
Heck.....it may be a nice bike...we don't know. But on the outside, it sounds like a fishy deal, from the details you gave.
Personally I wouldn't trade, You say it's comfortable because his has forwards, why not just put a set on yours. How many miles were on it before it had to be rebuilt? If I was you and was looking for more power I would consider a bb kit rather than something like that. I mean what do you think the resale value for something like that has? I'd guess not much. Keep yours!
One thing to consider is repair & maintenance. On an older bike, you are more likely to have some things break or wear out. The same is true of a "built" bike - the more you hot rod a motor, the more you're going to have things break or wear out and need replacing.
id keep your bike if i were you, for reasons mentioned above. and for gods sake, please take that plastic shield off! egads man, thats ugly. your bike is crying right now!
No freaken way! I don't care how much power it has or what all is done to it. Just like themensh said, he's the one making out in this deal if you do it. Keep your bike. If you need more power, save a couple grand and get either a 103 or 110 incher.
