About 5 years ago I had severe tendonitis of the elbow. It hurt bad. I went to the hardware and bought the strongest set of small magnets I could find and then wrapped an ace bandage around my elbow and arm and inserted the magnets along the wrist side of my arm and all around the elbow. I then slept with this on. The next morning I felt immediate and significant relief. I did the same thing every night and it was gone in about a week and has never returned. So I'd say if you can somehow apply them to the area and keep the magnets in place, it's definitely worth a try. The commercial bandages with magnets already in the bandage are too weak to do any good in my opinion.
A few years ago I took a hit with a bulging disk...it was bad....could not stand up straight, could not sit...I could only lay flat on my back. When I walked, I had to drag my left leg behind me, twisted and bent over at a 45 degree angle. My left leg felt like it was trying to explode, my left foot completely numb, and it felt like a knife was being twisted into my left butt cheek. I was in complete agony and incapacitated. MRI showed the bulging disk and the specialist at the Brain & Spine recommended immediate surgery. I was not going to argue. They had me on Percocets for 10 days before the surgery because the Vicodins weren't strong enough.
When I woke from the general anesthesia, I could feel an immediate 100% improvement. I walked out of there, upright and in very little pain. It took 2 weeks for my foot to not be numb anymore....but the surgery was an immediate and drastic relief.
Perhaps my case was more extreme, I don't know....I just know that having the surgery to remove the bulging material from the spinal canal was a very wise choice on my part.
Stretch, stretch, and more stretching...I have 2 protruding disc and I thought the Doc was crazy when he suggested a physical therapist. Within 2 weeks the pain was quite a bit better, but I still have the protruding disc.
I don't think that will ever change except thru surgery, but for now the stretching is woking wonders.
Go ahead and laugh. I myself thought magnetics was a BS solution! My son introduced me to them a few years ago because of a foot related motercycle related injury, relief WAS so dramatic it was unreal!! Also got relief from arm and wrist discomfort. My soninlaw (a framer) has had major back injuries and is able to continue work. As I said, Laugh all ya want it, does work!!

I had the same problem 10 yrs ago. A doctor recommended surgery but hooked me up with a pain management specialist who gave me a series of three (3) epidural steroid shots over a 6 week period.
I have been in Heaven ever since! The pain and the Sciatica went away and my life returned to normal.
