ALCON, I'm laid up again with back pain due to bulged discs. 20 years in the Marines has taken its toll. I'm very active but somedays I can barely stand or walk. Anyways, I was surfing the net looking for alternative treatments for back pain and saw some articles on magnetic therapy. I was wondering if any of you wear magnetic belts, pads, etc, and if they help or not. I'm open to any treatment advice that keeps me from surgery and drugs. BTW, it doesn't hurt when I ride my RG but the doc says she can't prescribe that as consistant and required therapy to get away from work. Weird isn't it? Thanks for any input. v/r K6
Do you have access to be able to do "contrast" baths where you alternate between hot water and cold water or ice treatments. I have some lower back pain and I do that at the gym, 5 minutes in the hot tub and then a couple minutes in the shower with straight cold water on my back. It works great to help mine, the hot water increases blood flow and the cold causes your muscles to contract and squeeze toxins out of the muscles and reduces swelling. Make sure to drink plenty of water after.
Thanks. After doing some research I think the key is increased circulation. That's why I was looking at magnetics. Your not the first person to suggest hot and cold therapy. Think I'll go try it now. Thanks again
I've had two back surgery's and can tell you if I had it to do over again I would drink the blood of a terrorist at midnight while swinging naked from a light post in front of the Liberty Bell in sub 0 temps if I thought there were even a slight chance of it working before I'd have Surgery again.
Semper FI! - Oddly enough, I was a Jarhead and my back is ruined as well. I used to wear the magnetic bracelets to help with circulation, not sure if they helped much or not. I bought a foam roller that helps alot - got mine at Target for Twenty Bucks. Comes with a video and there are websites that can show you how to do it. If it's too painful to lay on, have someone roll it for you over the trouble areas. A rolling pin is effective in this way as well. I've done therapy for years and that is one of the most effective things I have done.
you know alcohol also increases circulation. i recommend icing down some beer, warming up some cognac and baste your innards with both. may not cure what ales ya, but i garontee you wont feel nuttin.
I too have had my share of back pain. Right now it is in check w multiple chiropractor treatments. i have a magnetic belt w/ gel paks in it that work cold or hot. I got it at Walmart some time ago. My gel pak just broke in it, but right now i have not needed it. I like the drinking therapy suggested above also.

I have had a bulging disc for years. Last year my wife bought me a seat cushion with backrest that goes on my computer chair. It has rollers that go up and down your back. My back has been a lot better since I have been using it. I think it's brand name is Homedics. Whenever I'm on the computer I run it at least for 15 minutes.
I have tried everything over the years and this is the only thing that seems to do some good.
Fortunately my back never bothers me, when I ride my bike.

The only meds that seem to help are Motrin and Bud Light but you can't do that too much.
Looks like my last tour needs to be in Okinawa or some place in the Far East where I can get some foot massage time. Maybe some Soapy Soapy with a happy ending. SF.
