Default Please explain slipons.

I have straight pipes, loud as hell, really, these are freaking loud.
Are slipons something you put over them to get less noise?

Slip Ons are an aftermarket replacement for Stock mufflers which usually make your Stock Bike sound like a sewing machine ... Would Suggest you replace the whole system with a good exhaust system are many to choose from Vance & Hines and Rinehart I consider the top 2 although are many other choices that am sure some will say are better..

My 2" rush slipons sound great. A lot of compliments about them. Alot cheaper to start out on. Going to get true duals later on after the warrenty runs out.

The SE slip ons used to be made by Cycle Shack and those do sound sweet. The new ones are different imho and don't sound as good.

I don't think you can beat Cycle Shack for the money and they are basically the original SE units. Nice chrome, good sound, good value.

Will they slip on over your straight pipes?
Hard to answer without knowing your bike and present exhaust system.
Some drag (straight) pipes will accept slip ons, some won't. Some will fit if you cut your drag pipes to length.
If your present pipes run real close together, I'd guess you would have trouble getting the slipons to mount decent. BUT again, without seeing it, JMO.
Do you have baffles in your pipes now? If not, you can quiet it down a bit, AND GAIN some hp and torque, by putting in baffles. They run from 2" all the way to 12"
I took 6"ers, cut 'em in half, and run 3" in each pipe. Really took the 'sharpness' (LOUD) down a notch or two, and the ol' shovel runs a lot better than when I got it.
You most likely will need to rejet or recal after you install. But one loud ticket will pay for that.
When $$ allows, (gotta finish payin' for Momma's Christmas Sportster) angling towards true duals and straight fishtails with 3" baffles on the shovel.
Happy hunting. Gazillion exhaust systems out there.

like gumby said baffles are the best quick cure, another is a washer tack welded to a nut, drill a hole in the bottom of the pipe put the bolt in an square up the washer in the pipe. 1 inch washer for 1 3/4 pipes.Another thing I used to get out of tickets, the chrome down turn tips for cars,3 little set screws, turn the tips down, quiets it down quite a bit,but thats the only thing it does no hp or torque gains.

you don't need an entirely new exhaust system for good sound. My V&H slippons don't sound like any sewing machine (unless it's a Harely Vtwin powered one), that's a fact.

A friend of mine wanted to put slipons on his bike. He had straight drag pipes. He DID have to change exhaust system.
