I've got one cause it was on the bike when I bought it. Can't hurt. Had oil coolers on my last three pick ups and the engines were worry free for lotsa miles.

Exactly! If HD designed it with the need for a cooler they would have installed it.
They do warranty these bikes for 2 yr and unlimited mileage.

Like Jaron B said, for the money I've got other priorities. Still, wouldn't mind having one in Atlanta GA traffic during those hot summer days...

Of late however, I've seen some opposing opinions indicating that they are a worthwhile add on.

There was an article in Sept's American Iron magazine which gave high marks to Jagg oil coolers. I could be mistaken but it seemed to me they were suggesting an oil cooler was a good idea only if it was a Jagg. No doubt, Jagg's sales are probably going through the roof now.

Friend of mine just put a 10 row Jagg on his Ultra (HDs is six?) Hasn't done much testing but he indicates he's running 10-15 degrees cooler. I'll see how he makes out over the summer, especially while in heavy stop and go traffic where the overheating issue really gets your attention. He paid over $400 for his setup.

If it works for him, I may consider getting one for my Heritage. Jagg recommends a 10 row and seems for the Softail that only comes in the vertical side mount. Probably get it in chrome which of course drives the price up.
I read that article, and may also buy a Jagg 10 row cooler because of it.

I recall that the article stated that all coolers will lower the oil temperature, but that the Jagg cooler has the least impact on oil pressure. The article included a chart that listed oil pressure of a number of coolers. I believe that the pressure reduction with the Jagg was substantially less than the pressure reduction with HD’s cooler.

I still have that article around here somewhere ….
