RE: oil cooler
What you're really asking is, "Is my oil too hot?". I don't know, is it?
I know, that sounds like the smartass asnwermy dad always gave me. But in retrospect, he was usually right.
So, before making any mods, you need to evaluate the current condition. How hot does your oil really get? And how often does that happen?
Oil has an operating range. 180* seems to be the minimum accepted temp for proper operation. So You want to make sure it gets at least that warm. A cooler may not allow that minimum temp, even with a thermostat. If you rarely see your temps greater than 220*, don't bother. If it rarely gets to 200*, avoid a cooler at all costs.

RE: oil cooler
I 2nd bob cowan. I have made 146 hp at the rear wheel and have sit in miles of traffic at daytona/ MB with very few instances where I saw temps over 240( no oil cooler). Make sure you are not running lean or to much timingand use a good syn. oil for v-twin air cooled engines. I like mobile one but any good syn will do.
