Angry Maintenance contract

I purchased my 2007 FLHTC back in September of 2007 from Republic HD in Stafford Texas, and at the same time, I purchased a 48 month pre-paid maintenance contract. When I purchased the maintenance contract, the salesman made a big point out of the fact that the contract included oil changes every 2,500 miles, as well as a free upgrade to synthetic lubricants. Since then, I have put over 22,000 miles on the bike, and have had no problems with the bike or the dealer. Earlier this week, I took the bike in for the 22,500 mile service, and the serviceman at the desk advised me that Republis has changed their policy, and is cutting out the 2,500 mile interval services, and only the 5,000 intervals are going to be covered under the contract. Additionally, he told me that I will also have to pay the difference in cost between synthetic and dino oil.

The guy at the desk is OK, and told me that they have a new service manager who is pushing this. He was not in then, so just called him and told him what I thought, and that i felt like they were trying to screw me. He took my name and number and told me that he would have the Republic dealer manager call me, but have heard nothing yet.

How would you feel ? I'm pissed. I would get a lawyer and push this except for the legal fees.

Seems to me, if 2500 mile services are specified in the contract, they don't have a leg to stand on. They're obligated to honor the contract they put in place...if the contract doesn't specify 2500 mile services...then you're kinda screwed unless you try to win on precedence.

It's all up to what's specified in the contract.

What's in the contract "in writing"? I know they verbally told you one thing, but what's in writing may be what you are stuck with. I'm no expert on this so I'll be watching this thread as I'm interested in the outcome.

A 5k interval for service isn't a terrible thing, dont lose sight of the fact that's plenty fine for oil change intervals and anything less is a waste probably, but I understand your point.

if you have all this in writing take them to small claims court and get the money back on the remainder of the contract.

Seems pretty simple to me, you pre-paid for 2500 mile services and you're entitled to 2500 mile services. He!!, what if he decided that you're only entitled to one service every 12 months? Would you put up with that? 2500 is way overkill anyway, so as long as they adjust your contract accordingly, you're better off.

I think you have them. Even if it's not called out specifically in the contract, the fact that a verbal commitment was made and honored up to this point should be enough.

If you have a contract hold their feet to the fire. If you need to get a lawyer and take them to court they will also have to pay the lawer. I think if you had a lawyer just send them a letter stating that they are refusing to honor a binding contract they will probally change their mind as well as the service manager.

That's one of the reasons I like doing my own service work, no dealership BS. I agree with the others about 2,500 miles being too soon for oil changes, unless you do a lot of real short rides or ride in dusty conditions.

If the service guy told you that they were changing their policy, that's an acknowledgement of the original sale. Maybe the change is for new contracts but yours should be good until the term is up. I call bogus....
