Default changing sliders

i just bought a set of chrome sliders (lower fork legs) and i talked with a guy that has changed acouple of sets of them and said they aren't bad to change and i'm to cheap to pay harley $150 to change them. i read the manual and it sounds pretty easy. my questions are should i use harley fork oil or some other brand?? i want to clean inside of the sliders (since they are used) before i change them and i'm just wondering what i should use?? and any other advice you guys can give me.

If you're dealer will do it for $150 wouldn't be any question what I'd do.

Mine wanted $325.

I used the screaming eagle oil(not the racing oil)and you will have to know the exact quantity for your bike as it is different for each bike. You will also need a long 6m allen wrench to get the screws out of the bottom of the forks. It really was not a difficult job as i did mine last year.Good luck!

its easy to do. make sure you have significant down pressure on the fork cap when you unscrew the top. (i usually use a rag held over the top to keep the cap from flying. after that, its pretty straightforward if you have a manual. you will likely need new fork seals, its recommended anyways, as well a a tool to press the seals in (you can make your own, there's a how to on here somewhere) otherwise the seals are easy to damage. i did mine, no problem. its easier if you take each of the forks off of the bike once the tops are removed. i used bel-ray fork oil, or something close to that. the oil only changes the rate at which the forks rebound; a thinner oil rebounds faster than a thicker oil. also, when you refill the forks after reassembly, make SURE the oil is at the same, correct, level in both forks.

edited for grammar
