Hey all
I may or may not have an issue, maybe one of you all can assist.
Yesterday I noticed when locking the fork on my 08 Night Train, a blue grease coming out of the bottom of where the fork connects to the frame.
Don't know the name off hand behind the triple tree, where it connects to the frame, you know where the fork turns, sorry for my lack of vocab,....
I bought the bike brand new in Dec, (a left over) have 2200 miles on her, shes had her 1000, mile service, on this is my third harley, 2007 1200 sporty 2007, superglide ,and now the Night Train, I always keep my bike very clean, and have never seen anything like this, I had a lot of cold weathers riding lately, Could there be some sort of bushing or something that has let go.
Coming home from work at two in the morning the night before thought I felt some vibrations.
Anyone have an idea at all, and is it safe to ride the 6 or so miles to the dealer.
Thanks
Sounds like your talking about neck bearing grease, nothing to worry about it's normal.
How is it normal? The goose neck has a seal below the lower bearing assembly. It shouldn't leak at all or at least I've never had one leak when it's packed and working right.
Ya it's the bottom cap, Iv'e washed it 30 times since Dec and wiped it down at least as many, and I've never seen it before!!!!!!
The fact that the grease is blue doesn't really bother me as I use Marine grease in mine, which is blue. If it is leaking to the point you can clean the area and find it back there over a short period of time or miles I would pull the front down, re-pack the bearings and put a new seal in there. Be sure there is nothing on the shaft to have caused the seal to have failed. It can be done and running in a short morning so you can ride in the afternoon.
That is normal, once you have greased the bearings.
I filled my steering neck with grease several months ago. You need to pump until you see some coming out at the top bearing. Since then, I have been using a Q-tip to take the excess grease that oozes out from the bottom of the neck. I haven't had any grease drip down onto the bike.
