Default 1000 mile service? ? ?

So now that Ive got 1000 miles on the 05 Road King, DO I have to take it back to the dealer for service (60 miles) or can I take it to a local shop that does service work (not HD service center).
Well hell what are they going to do anyways? Isnt it just an oil change and tension check?
I could ride up there and get it done.
I LOVE this damn bike! Now I know why they call it the ROAD KING...
opps sorry......

No it doesnt have to be the dealer while under warranty. You can actually do your own as long as you maintain meticulous records. I had a certified but independant do my 1000 mile and I will do my own from now on.

IMO, this is one of the most important services. I would take it to the dealer for this one. Then do the basic oil changes and stuff yourself. It would help you if a warranty situation should arise...

I took mine to the dealer for the 1000 miles service and will do the service myself from here on out. They do tend to rip ya in price for the service $194, but it gave me peace of mind with the new scoot!!!!

Hell man 194 is CHEAP for a dealer on the 1000 mile service! HD of Atlanta gets 292. I got mine done by an independant but HD certified mechanic for 185 and that was with all synthetic.

Yeah, the HD service is so expensive. Definitely keep records of everything you do.

When I had my Sporty 1200 it was "chugging" pretty good in 1st gear after awhile. I bought it back to the dealer for the 1000 mi service, and the improvement was VERY noticible. I was very pleased with the service. It was like..."DAMN", they actually did something. I was a happy guy.

I've been doing my own and keep my receipts in a file.

You don't have to have them do the service.
