I know everyone has probably heard by now that all 2007 model Harleys will be fuel injected to comply with epa regs. 2006 is the last year for the carb, it's finally dead, good or bad. Now on another note. I have heard a rumor that in addition to going all injected, Harley might be installing smog canisters, like the ones that go to California now. I heard they were looking ahead to comply with the new epa regulations, and that if this new law passes, we will no longer be able to modify our new bikes without breaking the law, and facing a stiff fine. Anyone else heard this rumor?
Anyone pulling the CATS off their 06's now is already violating the law. Actually, the EPA emmissions laws go all the way back to the Clean Air Act of 1979. I think I'll be worried when I run a check on myself and find a warrant out on me from the EPA. Until then the Rineharts are staying on. The states in general don't have the funds nor the time to worry about chasing people down for using aftermarket parts. Initially I think we've all fallen victim to the hype over the sky falling including myself. Now maybe some countries like California and some states up in the northeast might do something. But here in middle America it's going to be biz as usual. There are so many ways around it anyway. Cloning ECMs, altering MAPs etc.
All these regs never stopped the car guys from installing non cat/performance exhaust and non EPA tuning. We shall go on!
If the 07's are getting the closed loop system found on the 06 Dyna's, the 'tax penality' it a bit higher but we have done alot of the homework on getting the closed loop system sorted out right here and now. Not to fear.
I'd love to have a closed loop FI system on my bike
There plenty of performance to be found in those systems, you just have to know where to look[sm=smiley20.gif]
I have heard the same thing that in time every State will follow Calif rules, well, here, we just fix up our bike like we want to, what they going to start smoging the bike?? Let hope the other will not follow Calif lead, but EPA is looking at there program, we have ABATE fighting,
Now maybe some countries like California and some states up in the northeast might do something. But here in middle America it's going to be biz as usual.
