Default getting modernized

When I jumped from 1 shovel and 1 pan to a 1 evo and 1 twin cam, all this talk of re mapping, downloads stage 1 blah blah blah was foreign. Well this past 2 weeks whilst I was gone on my other bike, I had a screaming eagle stage I EFI download and 204 cams put in my 2001 Ultra. I didn't do it but it was explained to me what it meant. You need a computer and something else I forget. They didn't have some part needed for the remapping (I sure fogot what they said it was) because aparently technolgy for 2001 is slowly fading to the distant past and they had to locate one at another dealer?

Either way she pulls great from a dead stop and a little extra punch when passing at highway driving speed.

I upgraded the cam drive to the factory upgrade kit. Chucked the 12 inch windshield for the 6 inch windshield with the T-bag windshield bag(with the contured corners so it don't stick out) and a black fairing bra to tone down some of the metallic purple.
Heading to Nova Scotia this mid June instead of Laconia and looking forward to that extra power. I really like the lower windshield as all my life I always was a face in the wind rider. When it rains really hard you can't see over the 12 inch one, at least I cannot at 5'7". Also bought a new seat that drops me 1.5 inches lower and 1.5 inches closer.

So I'm set for this year and possibly a few years to come. The stock cams were already starting to show wear after 16,000 miles? I got 'em. There not bad but I figured by time I headed to Alaska next year better to replace them now.

I plugged mine into my mac the other night. Now I get wicked ****.

...just kiddin... I was wondering if this is something I'd like to do with my my Deluxe down the road. Not sure what to expect, either in performance or my somewhat limited budget.

Is it an expensive venture?

ps... Have a blast in Nova Scotia!
Sure love to put the ride around Cabot Trail on my bucket list.

rydermike,

You must be one huge rider to have a 15 incher as an issue. Thats why I went to a 6 inch windshield as the 9 inch windshield would have put me in that split vision situation you speak of. I am very happy with the 6 inch shield.

If you ever find yourself up here for Laconia or any other reason give me a PM and I could meet you at Laconia and give that 12 inch windshield to you for free. I am not gonna fck around with trying to pack it, mail it and give it to you for free too. No offense. I won't be usinig it.

I wasn't really sure what to do either. I was only trying to upgrade the original and worn cam drive system to the HD recomended upgrade and I was shown the advancing wear on the original cams. I don't have the bill on me but when I get home I will be happy to break down what they did and the cost. I would go talk to my local service tech about options and impact. In other words exactlt what you're looking for in performance versus advanced wear and tear on the motor(which was my concern).

I am pretty happy with the very noticable performance. It was the 204 cams and the screaming eagle stage I EFI down load.

I know what you mean. Who ever heard of plugging a computer up to a bike? I don't want a new bike. I'll stick with the ironhead and the EVO.
