Have any wind stories? Yesterday, the temp got up into the 80s here in Wisconsin, finally, and it looked like a great day to ride. My daughter called and said "Wouldn't it be cool if I came down to pick her up from college on the bike?" What father could resist?
The ride turned out to be rougher than I've ever experienced due to high cross winds. Every time we rode by a farmer's field the cross wind would push us around so bad it bordered on dangerous! With a total weight over 1100 lbs, bike, riders, and luggage, we were still getting tossed around like we had sails! A lot of bikes hit the road yesterday and every one i saw was riding at an angle fighting the wind.
One good point, the cagers were very respectful from what I saw. They kept plenty of distance and didn't mind slowing down. Of course they could have been scared as hell too viewing the scene of swerving bikes up and down the highway.
I get a different wind story just about every day I ride down here in Corpus Christi. They really should have named CC the windy city. The other night we were coming home from a PGR event and the winds were a steady 35+or so at least that is what is felt like, I am sure the gusts got allot higher. But if you don't ride int he wind here you just simply don't ride LOL
Ust'a be around here in the spring and summer we'd get afternoon showers. Nice little rain then stop.
Last few years the frikkin' wind just blows. I'm so sick'a the frikkin' wind I could puke!!
Yesterday, on the highway the wind kicked up, started whippin' us around.
Brand new pack of smokes goes flyin' outt'a my shirt pocket! Damnit!!
Had to go to the next exit, get back on the highway goin' the other way clear back to where we originally entered the highway, retrace our path goin' slow in the pull-off lane lookin'.
Found'em layin' there next to the road pretty as you please.
Here in mid west Ohio the first day to get in the 80's go figur we got 25mph constant winds with gust up tp 35. I was ok on my Fat Bob but my bagger buddie was fighting it the whole day why cant we just warm up gradually just 3 days ago the high was 40 deg and we had a hard frost. I will take the warm air anyday with the high winds over winter just got to learn to lean...
Tri-Cities Washington where they say "here the wind doesn't blow, it sucks" It's constant, everyday 365 and since your borderline desert you tend to get plenty o' sandstorms sometimes losing site of the road, It's a great way to build situational awareness skills, you find yourself paying a lot of attention to the road. Engraved Rebellion: Inside Bundnerbike's Glam Rock II
Yesterday I went to a memorial service for seven veterans. The procession was a little over 50 miles. That wasn't so bad because for the most part, the speeds were relatively slow. Then came the ride home. We were on the interstate running 70-80 mph through Des Moines and it got a little tricky. We entered a sweeping right hander about the same time a big gust of wind hit me. Now we were in the fast lane and it blew me from right hand side of the lane across to the shoulder. This wasn't much of a problem except for the dirt and debris in that service lane. Fortunately, I was able to keep about a foot and a half to the inside of the marbles. There was also that concrete wall saying hello as well. For a moment, the "pucker factor" got a little intense. I'm getting reintroduced to riding again and yesterday was very educational for me in many respects.
I was also wearing a short sleave button up shirt. Bad idea. I haven't considered a light weight leather vest because it's not really me, but I may now reconsider that. It most certainly would have reduced the parachute issue.
