OAB, I think it is one of those things where "You had to be there" to appreciate it. Most younger people today (and some older too) base their perception of bikers on the old Hollywood image of bad bikers. Good post anyway, though, I hear your message.
I sometimes have to remind myself that some folks don’t understand the hierarchy in MC culture. I grew up in the culture, my old man was a biker, taught me the ins and outs, now I’m a grandfather and 3 Patch, damm that’s been a long time. If someone wants to learn, possibly become a hangaround or eventually prospect then I’m more than willing to put in the time with that individual. I am also more than willing to answer questions by anyone who approaches in a respectful way and has a legitimate inquiry. What I mean by in a respectful way is don’t approach in a drunken or offensive way, mouthing off and asking what this or that crap means on my Colors. That is just common courtesy in dealing with anyone.
That being said, I have had a boat for a long time, don’t know squat what it’s like being a sea captain or professional fisherman. Don’t really care to be one but I sure give them a lot of respect. There are multiple sides to all views. Which is the correct view….well it is what you are comfortable with. Most 3 Patchers don’t even notice the “Lone Wolf” or what ever you want to be called, unless there is a reason to be noticed.
You might not want to be in a MC, but its always best to know your surroundings. An interesting observation is that anytime a subject comes up about M/Cs and others, there are many feathers ruffled.
To all of you out there that think those of us who have earned our patch are scumbags…quit watching so much Gangland or SOA and get to know us, you will be pleasantly surprised.
A patch make a person a scumbag? Just like any other part of society there are people in all types of work & lifestyles that are NOT like every other one in the same group! Whether it be lawyer's ceo's or even CPA's ..... ALL of them are not total scumbags! Just quite a few , as well as in other walks of life. In sales it's best to know whom your customers are ...... especially if there is a commission involved.
Kinda like me calling you a scumbag because you live in a liberal azz stae of OR or a MOB city like vegas ....... most likely I'd be wrong , but then again , as quick as ur mouth was running , more likely 100% correct !
Wait a second! All lawyers aren't scum-bags????????????
you got to understand it is alot differnt nowday's. back once upon time ago most rider's knew about the M.C. club's and the local people was frantic if they rode thru town.the only bad thing i see as a rider we are still liveing by the steio type of biker's thought anybody who ride's a harley is a 1% but it has gotten better.but there is still alot of stupid people out there.they are still rider's and yes they are into other thing's.been around alot in my time and there are alot of good biker's out there. and if people understand them or not is not that big a thing.it's just differnt time's.
The lady at the dealer is a nice lady. She works hard and I was talking to her because she is a friend who [or whom?] I respect. She answered the patch holders question honest and frankly about an item he was looking for. It was a conversation--it wasn't attitude or disrespect. The patch holder was respectful in his approach and manner. She just didn't know the history of a locally formed , worldwide 1% motorcycle club. I thought that was naive. She's not the first person I have come across with little knowledge about clubs, but the latest. I didn't think he was a scumbag---I don't know him. It was just a comment about the era's and people's exposure to motorcycling. I am amused at the feathers I have ruffled over grammar and spelling. Some of you need to ride more.

I know who the clubs are in my area. I've stood in bars here and other states side by side with 1% ers. I treat them the way I treat everyone I meet, with respect. I may not agree with the things they do, but I feel a hell of alot more comfortable around them then I do the gang bangers in my neighbor hood.

With all due respect I couldn't help but notice how much better your spelling was this time, lol (trying to laugh with you not at you).
I love reading posts like this. It is always the same thing no matter what the subject is. If someone isn't like you they are somehow inferior. Read back and both sides of the issue are guilty of it. Just respect people for who they are. Doesn't mean you have to hang around them, understand them, or even like them. If you show 1%ers the same courtesy you should be showing everyone else there is no reason you should ever have a problem with one. Even if you don't know squat about them. If that is all you ever want to do is hang out with people just like you then you will undoubtedly miss out on a lot of fun and it is no wonder you ended up so narrow minded. This post is not aimed at anyone in particular but does apply to most of you.
