Default Primary Inspection Cover

I was out washing by 2008 fatboy yesterday when i realized for the first time that the primary covering inpspection cover is no longer on the primary, well atleast you can no longer remove it. This is my first harley but my dad has had several over the years I have borrowed to ride from time to time when did harley make this change? just with the new tc96 motors? Just curious

I think it started with the 06 Dynas and progressed up through the lines. The primary chain has an automatic chain tensioner thats supposed to keep the chain at proper tension. So no more scheduled maintenance on that part.

Just another thing to make life more complicated. If for some reason you want to take a peek in there now it sounds like you have to remove the whole damn outer primary cover. I recently installed a auto primary chain adjuster on my 05 but still like to be able to take a peek in there every now and then just to make sure all is well.

Seems less complicated to me. Why adjust something that auto-adjusts?

Didn't say to adjust the chain. I'm talking about checking things like worn tensioner shoe, or tight spots in the chain, metal particles, loose nuts or bolts...you know things that can really ruin your day..There is more to owning a bike than just putting gas in it and shinning the chrome. A good example is the cam chain tensionors..You are always hearing about somebody trashing their gear case because its a pain to check them so it doesn't get done next thing you know it's spaghetti in there.

+1...totally. I like to try and do what I can. No fun breaking down in BFE. Can't always prevent it but a little maintenace goes along IMHO.
