Went to a friends Tire shop this morning And he was putting tires on a 1978 Cafe Sportser, it was like brand new had 7300 miles on it still had original Good Year white letter tires that baby was sweet. Talked to the owner he was about 20 said it was his fathers who just died. He said he was not going to ride it much and was looking at a V Rod Told him it was a rare bike and was worth a lot, he said he didnt know, told him to look it up and do his homework on it. I test rode one and it was like rideing a jackhammer, but you could flick it around easy very nimble. It was a bust and didnt sell good But it was a kool bike

A friend of my dad owned a Harley dealership, I can remember seeing one there, and I thought it was the baddest thing I'd ever seen. Dad being "old and uncool" had an electra glide at the time.

I remember that bike when it came out, it had what was called the "Siamese Exhaust" system on it like most of the Sportsters did. The "Jack Hammer" description of the ride is well deserved. The seat was very uncomfortable. It was one of the two hottest factory Cafe Racers at the time, the other being the Kawasaki Z1-R.

I made the mistake in 1983 of not buying a brand new left over that was at Frieze HD in Belleville,IL , instead di a GS1100E , great bike , real fast , got LOTS of citations.... now after owning a couple harleys and about to buy a couple more (shovelheads) wish I'd just bought that way back ..... might not have gone thru 25 bikes in between!

My uncle who has passed used to take me on his Sportster when I was pretty young. I learned alot about Harleys from him. He bought one of those cafe racer looking bikes and that was the first Harley I rode. I have a pic of it somewhere, thanks for reminding me about that bike.

Man you brought back some awesome memories. The other cool bike I thinks was the BMW 100 in candy apple red. The Harley Cafe and Z!R that was riding.

I used to have a KZ1000LTD. I REALLY wanted the Z1R though. Sometimes I see them for sale on e-bay from time to time.
