I do the same, take my time and be careful. I also cover other parts with towls that may be hit or scratched with tools, towls can be held in place with masking tape. I also wear latex gloves to minimize finger prints and smudges all over everything. I also remove my watch and wedding ring when working on the Harley, also use good quality tools. Yes I am **** with a capitol A, more like tripple AAA He He!!!!

Ride Safe,

Obviously the respect doesn't go both ways. I'll defer.

Depends on what I'm doing but I always use these, worth every penny:

I use the tank and fender covers from Harley. I have also used clean towels to cover up areas. As others have suggested, take your time and envision what might happen. For example, when I took my tank off the Softail the frist time, I thought the rocker covers were at risk for being scratched so I put a piece of cardboard between the tank. Things like this can prevent accidents. Also, make sure you have plenty of lighting in your work area. READ THE MANUAL.
