I want to know why I don't hear about kids in their damned junked import cars with 1000 watt stereos pumping out noxious rap music getting pulled over.
All the agencies I know ticket these guys way more often than motorcycles, but I really dont know any cops who ever ticketed a motorcycle for being to loud, but I know this happens in some cities where it has become a problem.
Honestly I think the noise thing is over blown. I mind my manners when in neighborhood streets, and generally try my best not to **** other people off.. (I rarely succeed in this, it's just my nature.. but I try not to do it with the noise of my bike). I've yet to have a problem with getting pulled over for noise.
Several of my friends have had problems up in Denver Co., and they steer clear of that area now.
So, if I'm in an area where Johnny Law is around, I know they are generally looking for any reason to pull me over, mess with my otherwise good day, generate revenue for the city, and get kudos on their next performance review.. so I watch my *** and behave.
"crotch rockets" with aftermarket exhaust aren't loud until you get on the throttle HARD. I can ride my built 'busa with Brocks sidewinder (loud) racing pipes around my neighborhood all afternoon without pissing anyone off. On a straight stretch of road I'm louder than any Harley.
A Harley with straight pipes is loud from tickover. Just pulling away from a light it's obnoxious. I'm glad that the police are getting that **** out of my neighborhood.
There's no reason for a slow vehicle (motorcycle, car, truck whatever) to be loud. It's the same as a fart-can Honda civic.
it's easy to make our bikes loud. throttle has a lot to do with it obviously, and when required, i can make my rineharts not "too" loud. if you want attention, it's available on the right grip.
As you watch the video is it me or does the white haired officer pump up his chest like barney bad a**! ???
He issued a warning to a woman on a dyna with v and h longshots. She is as easy on the throttle as anyone I've ever seen. He was also very rude to her! Instead of explaining his stance in a nice fashion he was ...Well I can't say anything nice so I'll let you come up with what his behavior might have been like!
I always look at it like a speeding ticket. I know I was speeding, nobody put a gun to my head to make me do it; if I get caught, I pay the fine.
I guarentee that if you had a factory exhaust, and got the ticket, a lawyer would have a field day with a lawsuit.
If you have an aftermarket, non-street legal exhaust; whats the beef? You put it on the bike and chose to break the law. Man up & Pay up. If you can't pay, play by the rules.
I have a SE pipeset on mine, and if they get me, I know I'm guilty.

I agree with what you are saying. But what about cagers with loud stereos? I was a fire fighter at a station on a busy street in a city next to Detroit. When I had the night watch I had to stay in the office next to the street all night and answer calls. Cagers would stop for the light with there stereos so loud it would rattle the windows. No one ever said any thing about that. Even when a cop would be there with me, he would just laugh. If a city enacts a noise ordinance they should get every body for it......

Around here, the loud stereo people get pulled too. I remember when I was in high school back in the early 90's, the booming stereos were pretty common....as were the kids griping about getting tickets for being too loud.
Just the other day, I was beside a kid in a POS with the stereo on super loud. I was on my 05 FXDC with a Pro-Pipe. Cop pulls up behind us at the light and the kid just leaves the stereo booming so loud that his whole car was rattling. Light turns green and the officer lights up the kid and pulls him over.
