Just got confirmation that the HCI 50 & 55 helmets will be available again in about 2 months once they are redesigned slightly to meet DOT requirements
What about this one? Not exactly what you were looking for but it is a DOT 1/2. Ad says its DOT approved and is nice and cheap. I was thinking of getting one this weekend but we'll see.

Be careful, try it on first for looks. I tried that one on at a local store and it gives a real bad case of mushroom head on me at least...I have a Daytona open face (the Cruiser) and that is kinda nice and low profile for a DOT though. Similar to a Fulmer, but a bit narrower..
Where did you try one of those on? It seems that I can only find them online. I tried one of the Skid Lid 1/2s on today and it gave me major mushroom head and I tried on three different sizes.
As far as the ACC (advanced carbon composites) head trip helmets are concerned. My nephew bought one, spent almost $200 on it, and it's less than a 1/4 inch smaller than the $40 DOT helmet I have.
Also, here's what I did to reduce the mushroom head even more. I took a kids baseball bat. With the top smooth rounded end I evenly mashed the styrofoam, starting in the middle and onlt a little to te sides. Don't pound it, grind it while applying alot of pressure. It's a good workout for the wrists too. lol What that accomplished was the helmet sat lower onto my head...almost a 1/2 an inch. It also fits better now and get alot less lift when I'm riding over 60 mph.
I remembered this thread and just received an e-mail that the HCI-50 is back in production. I could not find it listed on their main website, so I am not sure what they changed about them, but you can find it on the dealer website;
