Well I had an '05 Ultra with the 402s. We ride two up a lot so I only got about 7000 miles on the rear tire, they never got very old. I had 30 something thousand on it when it got the '09. I never saw any tire problems other than a screw in the rear one time, that definitely caused it to lose air.
The D402's are all I have run on my '05 Deluxe. Let's see...I change the rear every 10k...and the front every 20k...I have 63k on the bike...sooooo, I'm currently on the 7th rear and 4th front, with no issues at all. Not sayin there's not a prob with 'em...but, like Ron says, 5 issues in over a year don't 'zactly make it a class action defective line of tires. One thing missin from that article was any mention of how old the tires were...just a mention of it bein worse "as the tires age". I'll waste a few dollars of rubber to make sure I always have solid tires under me...'specially on a bike. Just the same tho...I put in a call to a friend who's the service manager at the local H-D shop...will let ya'll know what he has to say when he gets back to me.
