VIN issues, please help.

VIN issues, please help.

The VIN for my bike is not pulling up in the DMV database, I have not actually been to the office to talk to them yet but a family member works for the state and has access to the DMV system and says it is not pulling up.. I also checked sites like carfax, and free VIN report among other things and nothing is being found.

I know the numbers are correct because I've checked them about 100 times and this is what is stamped on the frame.
1HD1CAH14DY112661

If you go here http://www.motoverse.com/tools/vin/harley.asp and paste the VIN it pulls up info there, so I know its lagit.. but still a no go for the DMV.

I'm told the bike is a 1982 bodel, it has 25th anniv badging on it. However, the motoverse says its a 1983?

Any ideas?

It has not been tagged since 1991 btw.

The "D" in the 10th position of the VIN indicates it's a 1983 model.

If it hasn't been tagged since 1991, it's not surprising that DMV ( the people that issue tags) no longer have any info on it. They don't keep this chit forever.
