If you look at biker history, flames and skulls came back from WW2 with our G.I.'s.They're the ones who really started the biker image,so its tradition and classic. You seldom see skulls on import bikes as a rule.Sonny Barger still say's its cool!
bingo...i believe the skull imagery in the HD world can be traced right back to the WWII aircraft art which adorned the bombers and fighters of the day. many of these guys came back from the war and woreGI gear, put the bomber art on their bikes, etc.

Avast, the old skull and crossbones goes back to the days of pirates and seafarin ne'er-do- wells as a way to scare the beejeebers out of the common man.
Funny post, just a bit more "skull" history. The Knights Templar actually used the Skull and Bones prior to the pirates you speak of. Yarrrrr
Skulls for me have meaning. I like em.
Plus it scares the kids...

Just wondering what the attraction is to the skull image? The more I become involved in the Harley scene; meeting other riders, visiting websites etc., I've noticed a lot of paint jobs, tatto's, decals, depicting the skull. I've always thought the skull represented death or the promise of death, so why is it such a popular image amoung Harley riders?
The reason I have a skull and cross bones painted on my tank is:
I played rugby for over 10 yeaars. The school and or clubthat invented rugby over in England, has that as their symbol. I pay homage to them because wemodified Rugby into Football.
I dont care why any one else has them...I think they are cool!
If this is a reflection of our personalities...I don't know man...I'm scared of you...i'm scared of you man. Better than those dumb birds all over your bike...JK. I guess if you have to have something...If you really have to have something on your nice looking Harley...I think we put this stuff on our bikes to be different, and so many people are being different, then we are not so different...Just think about it. Ă It's what ever you like.
I guess I don't get it. I just like plain nice...
