My local chapter has a lot of rides, but they are official rides only to a destination, not to and back. Is this typical and if so what is the reason?
I'm not crazy about this but if it's typical, so be it.

Yes, typically once you arrive at the designated destination, the official HOG ride has concluded. Then, when "spirits" are consumed, the HOG organization has no liability for your behavior or safety after that point.
Many of our chapter rides end at or near the starting location. A few rides per year do end at the point of arrival or destination. We try to provide a pre-ride mapped route for those who may want one.
Being drinking was mentioned, unless it's an overnighter, our chapter has a no tolerance rule in effect though you may do what you like after any ride but if you are wearing your colors, you still represent the chapter and need to take this into consideration.
HOG Chapter I was in did that. Kickstands down, your on your own.
I ride with the FOG now (Fun OTHER Group)! No meetings, no rules, no fuss, no muss. We ride more places than the HOG does, take long trips, keep everyone safe. I've never enjoyed riding more with any group than I have this group. I mostly like riding alone or with 1 or 2 others, until this group. No BS, just fun fun fun! We have a LOT more participants with this group than the local HOG. People from HOG are hearing about us and signing up to ride with us.....it's SO much better! Not that theres anything wrong with HOG - Many GREAT Chapters out there with really good people.
