Default Right index finger goes totally numb

I ride an '08 Street Bob. When I ride any distance, my right index finger goes totally numb. The thumb on that same hand goes partially numb sometimes as well. It is NOT a case of "death grip". I have literally tried riding with that finger and thumb not even touching the throttle. Doesn't seem to make a difference.

I very rarelyhad the same problem on my previous bikes (Sporties, and one Suzuki Intruder). Once in a while I would experience SOME numbness, but not bad.

I do NOT have carpal tunnel (doctor says so). But I don't know why this happens, and what can I do about it? It's really getting to be an extremely annoying problem. I've thought about ISO grips, but some have said it won't help the problem.

Any other suggestions or explanations??

I get that every now and then on my 07 in my hand as well, dont rly pay any attention to it, im only 24 and am in clean health...I usually just shake it off a little bit once i goes numb and dangle it down along my side so the blood goes to it after a little bit of riding it goes away for me...Maybe try stretching your hands out a little b 4 a ride? Just a thought

had the same issue with my 08 Softail Custom with the original mini apes it would happen after during fairly short rides. installed street slammer bars and just did 800 miles in 2 days with no numbness at all. I think it might have just been the angle of my wrists on the mini apes. thats my experience anyway, maybe it will help.

Try adjusting the bars slightly. Sounds like you are pinching a nerve in your wrist...

Numbness is caused by a nerve getting pinched or lack of circulation. As the others have side, try repositioning the bars or swapping them out.

Numbness at any time should never be ignored. Listen to what your body is telling you just as you would listen to what your bike is telling you.

I have the same problem. MRI showed pinched nerves in my neck at C3-C5 if I remember correctly. Comes & goes but it's tingles all the time.

Try a different position with your bars. Just loosen them up a bit and move them a bit back or forward. Careful you don't drop em on your paint while loosening they go quick. I have a shoulder issue and in the right position I go numb quick.
