Went riding yesterday with the wife, with the brace, and favored my good leg for mount and dismount and when stopped. I have to admit that I didnt have to much of a problem, but MAN was my other leg wore out when I got home.

I thank all of you for your comments and ideas, I am starting to work my good leg to take up the slack and will stay optimistic and continue to ride when I can.
Have you tried letting your wife dismount with the bike on the jiffy stand? I usually stop mine, lay it over on the stand, get off, and then my girlfriend gets off. Just wondering and thought it might help.

Way to go!! Soon you'll have to get chaps with different size thighs and you'll still be riding!!

Well the Ultra is sold, it was just to much for the knee to take the top-heavy beast. I am actively looking for a (lighter) and less top heavy ride though. I'm really intrigued by the old FLHS, the pre-road king model. we will see what happens.

Get a sidecar. I'd do that before I went tango uniform on riding.

Well, I just got back from the doc's today and am putting the Ultra up for sale. I have not really been able to ride much in the past couple of months due to a knee injury. It seems that my knee is giving up the ghost when it comes to lateral stress, and they have opted to not do surgery at this time. I cant support the weight of the Ultra anymore. Aint gettin old a bi#ch. So if you know of anyone....
It may look funny, but works well - get a halo-style sports knee brace. They keep the lateral stress prevented, allowing only the hinged action of the knee.

Go with something like the Voyager kit that someone else posted. A very good friend of mine sold his Road King a few months ago for much the same reasone. It was killing him not having something to ride. He ran across a used Goldwing with the Voyager kit already installed on it and bought it. He had looked at trikes and liked them but they are pretty expensive and he's retired so funds are not as free as they once were. What he like about this is that there is still some lean in the bike. Not alot to some which still makes it feel like a bike. He misses the Road King but decided to go with the Goldwing just beacuse it was avaliable but mainly because the reverse is already built in. I've seen them on Halreys and they really look pretty good in person. It does give you the option of taking it off if something should change down the road.

Sorry to hear you sold the bike - but understandibly so. Man, I wish you the best on finding a the one that you want now.

I'm a dispatcher for roughly 38 or so trucks. One of my guys is going through the same thing. His knee was really badly torqued and he just can't seem to recover. He's getting ready to sell his ultra and hopefully get something on the lighter side.

Hang in there!
