Its a sad year
Okay...now don't get pissed, but you might also consider a lighter weight bike. Something on the order of a Sportster maybe? Don't flame me here...I'm only offering suggestions.
I'm still looking, I think I'll go used and alittle older this time. I really like the FLHS!

Good luck
Went riding yesterday with the wife, with the brace, and favored my good leg for mount and dismount and when stopped. I have to admit that I didnt have to much of a problem, but MAN was my other leg wore out when I got home.
I thank all of you for your comments and ideas, I am starting to work my good leg to take up the slack and will stay optimistic and continue to ride when I can.
I had both knees reworked in Jan of 05, so far so good, although there are days when I know I cant ride but they are far and few between.

Yes, HMO, and they said that they would fix it, just not at this time. I guess since I can still walk on it "its not bad enough" to need fixin yet.
1. Take their refusal to provide the medical/surgical care you need lying down (ie, do nothing, accept their decision, and live with the problem).
2. Demand treatment and if necessary, sue the HMO for breach of contract/failure to treat/medical malpractice, etc.
3. Drop the HMO and enlist in a private PPO insurance plan or an HSA (health savings account).
I am in private practice, and have treated numerous patients over the years with HMOs who refused to provide their enroled beneficiaries with medically necessary treatment/surgery. It is so commonplace, it has become a cliche. There is a reason we private practice surgeons/physicians refer to FMP as "Fatal Medical Plan", and Keiser as "Keiser Meiser", etc. There have been a number of landmark cases in recent years in which large HMO corporations have lost prominent class actions based on failure to treat, improper refusal to authorize needed treatment/surgery,breach of standard of care.
Please, do not take this lying down. It's your knee, your ability to ride, your quality of life.
