Default 88b crankcase leak

Got an 05 softail , 4800miles, still under waranty,

Leaked oil from the bottom of the crankcase were the two pieces of the case mate together since day one . Took to dealer twice first time replaced a seal at the shifter. But it didnt stop the leak at the bottom of the engine. during winter months leak not very bad but with warmer weather temps get up to 200 it always leaks after I bring it home and let it sit in the garage same spot on the floor . second trip to dealer they had it 3 days and did nothing said it didnt leak. Have an appt. with another dealer I think the first dealer knows its leaking from the case and dosnt want to fool with it This bike cant be the first one out there with this problem. Love the bike otherwise But very disapointing.

Wonder if anyone else has heard of or had similar prob. thanks??

Easy fix.....

Split the cases, reseal it, and viola.....

We have had a few, but not many.....

Normally it happens AFTER the customer has done a complete hygenic cleaning, and pulling out the sealant compound of the case halves....

Thank you for the reply.

The thought of tearing down a nearly new motor sounds very intense to the average guy. Is it possible to correct this type of problem.?

Tell me something good !

As I stated, it is easy to correct, but that is for a technical/kinesitic person.....

The Case Sealant just needs re-applied, and to do that, the motor MUST be split in half.....

You will need some special tools to do that, not for the faint of heart or minimum technical background....

Thanks again .

How long would you predict this type of repair should take.

R&R is about 8 hours.....

I think that HD gave me 7.2 on an 88, so a "B" would be about .5 more......

Wrong side of the state, but thanks anyhow.....

Over there, it smells funny.... Lots of cheese and Donovan McNabb's mom I think[:-]

Hell, I'd tell you that if the dealership is going to warrent it, get a big bore done.....

no labor involved, just parts......

or you can get some diamond cutting done on your jugs and heads.....

motor jewelry is always a nice bit of flash.....

Depends a lot on if your particular dealer is a good place to deal with, or if they are Straight Laced and Tighter than a Frog's Sphincter....

I dont have the 88b, but on my 05 88 I had a similar situation occur.
I had oil leaking from the top where it meets and some other location. My dealer tore it down and fixed it. Took them a week.
Holding well so far.
