Default Please help me decide!!!

I'm currently looking at 2 different heritage softails on ebay. Which would you choose?

#1. 2001 14,000 miles, carburator, excellent condition, lots of "bling"

#2. 2004 10,000 miles, fuel injected, excellent condition, minimal "bling", stage 1

Both bikes will sell for $14K. Both "look" comparable, although #1 has more chrome.
Is there a difference in the 2001 and 2004 engines (other than FI)?
Will the 4K extra miles hurt?
I suppose #2 is worth more because it is 3 yrs newer and has fewer miles although #1 has a little more "bling"?

Do you prefer the carburator or FI?

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Either bike, it's a matter of preference. I prefer F.I., but carb is more versital for doing performance upgrades. '07 model bikes will be F.I. only making carb bikes more valuable. I have to ask though, is it worth saving $4,000.00 to purchase used when you could purchase brand new? Most people like to personalize their bikes. Are you going to be happy with the "bling" already installed, or would you spend the money to make the bike your own? The mileage is not an issue. Both bikes are just broken in and should provide another 80-90,000 miles of riding enjoyment. There is little difference in the engines, although I believe there was some improvement in the TC88 over the years.
Choice is yours, but if it were me, I would cough up the additional 4K and buy new!

That's a tough one. Personaly I prefer carb but thats mostly because I like tinkering with the bike such as change pipes and such, and can tune the carb accordingly. If you're going to do any kind of engine mods you will have to get the FI mapped. FI does start much better in cold weather also. As for the milage, I don't think that it would matter, I have almost 35000 miles on my 2000 Heritage and it's still running strong. Hope this helps and good luck.

Do both the 2001 and 2004 have the 88B engine?

Welcome to the forums!

I believe the 88B engine was first put in the 2000 Softails so both bikes should have the 88B engine.

I prefer FI over carbs, but carbs offer more flexability in wrenching on your own ride. FI vs. Carb is a personal choice with most people, but I like firing up the bike on cold days and not having to worry about choke and other carb idiosyncricies.

Get the newer one. Dress it up to your taste. All that bling was someone else idea. I only buy stock because I want it my way and it is fun to build your creation your way. Chances are you would add differnt pieces. And 3 years is 3 years of less time exposed to the elements and all else. Check your local dealer for used consigned bikes. You can touch it with your own hands and see it with your own eyes.

I prefer carb, riding an '02 Heritage, but in your options above would go for the newer, lower miles, FI bike with less chrome bling. Let the chrome bling you add be of your choosing... imo.

Surely one of the two is more attractive to you than the other. They are similar enough in value that I would go with the one that turned me on the most.
