2007 Model changes????
This will hurt the aftermarket pipe business as well, because you may not be able to do complete exhaust replacements, only "cat-back" systems or slip ons. But don't get discouraged. This opens the doors for companies to build performance cats just like they do for the aftermarket auto and truck industry. It will also bring about better running bikes. Closed loop systems are much better than the current systems. No more "is the right map loaded?".
I'm just thankful I got one that I don't have to screw around getting rid of the EFI, the reverse gear, the ABS, the chaindrive cams, the weak sprocket side crank bearing........
They need to think about what a Harley is, and what its heritage means, before they kill the goose that laid the golden egg. If the EPA is hurting Harley they need to lobby their many supporters in Congress to change whatever regs need to be changed- before they turn Harleys into a poor(?) man's version of a metric bike.
Sorry, kind of off topic.
Then Harley can start putting the improvements into their bikes that are needed and mandated. When it comes to the EPA, there really isn't alot of lobbying that can be done. I'm amazed motorcycles have been exempt for this long, catalytic converters were mandated on cars in 1976. Its inevitable and Harley will have to deal with it just like every bike manufacturer, regardless of heritage.
Don't look for Harley to change their product approach..
I'm a good example of what they are targeting.
I'm mid 40s.
This is my first Harley.
I have a few bucks to spend.
I wanted an authentic "Harley Davidson", and not some customized pseudo chopper.
Their bike menu is set up to make two seperate sales. Motorcycle, and then accessories.
The national average of dealer installed accessories is a tad less than $3,000.00
The ala carte' thing is making them lots of money for the shareholders.
I spent 18K on the bike, and 10K on accessorie. I'm a little over the top, but that's how their marketing dept has dictated how their motorcycles will be equipped.
Colors are cheap and easy to change. Ever few years, change something for the better, like the 200mm rear tire.
Other than add another unnecessary gear, I don't expect them to do much more than over-hype small, un-earth shattering changes like they did with the Dyna line. Maybe a 95" for the baggers, but it will reflect in the price tag.
Not sure I can even imagine this combination: Olive Pearl/Vivid Black Burgundy/Bright Gold
