BIG BORE
Ok. I had the 1k service done Wednesday of last week. $299.[:@] Someone once told me HD stood for hundred dollars. Now I know why. I rode the bike out of town and over 400 miles last week. Riding with fellas on serveral metric models. My bud with a vtx 1800 remarked that he doesn't know why I would want to get the 95 kit seeing as how the bike rolled on pretty impressively in its current state. Maybe its machismo or too much money for my own good but I am still considering the kit. To the members who have done the 95 what was your reasoning behind it and are you completely satisfied?
I hear they can get 100 hp/ 100 tq out of the big bore kit, with the TC88 being in the high 70s low 80s, I would imagine thats a big seat of the pants difference. I plan on getting it when I can get up the money for it

I am trying to convince myself that it is worth it. My buddies only solice is the fact that they have more horsepower and torque than I do since I got my Steet Glide. I finally have the bike I should have gottenfrom the beginning. Researched the topic a lot on the forum and on the web and think I would be happy with a seat of the pants feel.
Dang! $300 for the 1K service? All I had to pay was the "exta" cost of going to SynIII...something like $30.
As far as power is concerned, I'm pretty happy with the 88 although I'm dreaming about a Woody's Blower.

I did the BB kit on my '06 RK, with S&S 510g gear drive cams, adjustable pushrods, KB piston kit, etc. I did it for the xtra torque, and it runs out pretty damn good for me.....
I think if I had it to do over I would just do the gear drive cams.. Andrews 21g or 26g.. to get rid of the stupid chains and their tensioners (had one go bad in my '00 RK at 17k miles) and install adjustable pushrods, (to avoid pulling the heads), tweak the oil pump and carb (or F.I. system), high flow air cleaner and free flowing slip on mufflers, and that's it, most bang for the buck in my opinion, and least invasive into the motor. the money you saved on pistons and jugs will buy alot of gas....
No... you won't post monster numbers on the dyno... or outrun your buddy's VTX and maybe the other metrics, but it will get you quite a bit of "seat of the pants" power over stock.
I have read here and other places that when you're close to or over 100 tq & hp, that you should change out the roller bearings in the cases for tapered ones, there are some pics here of bearings that have gagged, that means more $, and it is quite easy to get caught up into chasing more & more power with more & more money,,,, been there, done that.... I used to do some drag racing, and it just got plain stupid what I would spend to gain 2 tenths......
"Speed costs Money, how fast do you want to go?" is so true...
Well, there's my long-winded opinion, I hope it helps,
good luck and do whatever you think will make you happy, afterall, that's what counts and what it's all about anyway!
Bottom line is I feel that I would be just as happy with 88" and aforementioned mods, without the expense of going to 95"

I can say if you go 95" you won't ever go back to 88" or at least I won't. I say if you're going to put the goods in the motor might as well make it 95" or bigger. I'm fixing to install some TW 55G's in my RK that I got from Delta, my motor runs good now but I want the gear drive so I'm just upping the cam lift a bit while I'm in there, I'll get Kendall Johnson to do some head work this winter and Dakota Kid to do the throttle body this winter. A good running 95" is a blast to ride and it gets fairly decent gas mileage as well.
Hey I can afford this stuff more now that I've quit smoking, my reward to myself.

The B-Bore and a sixth gear is on my list. Not sure what to do first if I can only afford one at a time....
I'm leaning towards the six-speed mod at this point.

John is right! The 95 and cams, whether it be a gear drive or HD is the ONLY way to fly. Worth every dime. Makes your bike run the way it is suppossed to..................Harley could easily do a 95 at very little increase in production cost.....and all we'd have to do is add cams or gear driven cams.
Either do the 95 or add cams to your stock bore..............wake the engine up!

I fall into that category where money is not a issue. I had my motor done just to see the difference. It is pretty remarkable the change in the bike. I went whole HOG (pun) with the 95ci. There is a lot more hop-up stuff for the 95 thats why I did not go the 103 route. There is more hp in the bike but I like the stock look of Se mufflers. Two into one is worth several hp. I have a local friend who only did the 95, pushrods etc but no heads. I let him ride mine and I road his. He came back and immediately wanted to get the head work done. We both agree there is no comparison between the bikes. Head work really turns these bikes on. I also went with the six speed. I enjoy it but to not lug the motor I have run about 75. It really settles in at 80. I always run that fast but when with slow buddies I have to run 5th gear. I would say do everthing your $$$$ allows.
Final cut, I would think twice about the 6 speed without some motor work. THe final drive is pretty low for a stock motor. Though the softail 6 speeds are different than the dyna/touring 6 speeds.
Now that I have said all this keep in mind I am not a wrench and everything said here is just seat of the pants and a personal opinion.

Thanks for all the replys guys. I have a bud who has a 05 Ultra Classic with the 95 and other upgrades. I will see if I can get him to let me ride his and see if I feel the difference. He has really pumped some money into that torque beast but I don't know if I would be willing to go as far as he has.
