Default soft forks

The front suspension on my '04 Super Glide is way too soft, I can bottom it out by hand. I want to change the fork oil to HD SE Heavy. How many ounces does each side hold? Thanks.

Cool

Call the parts dept at your dealer they can tell you as well. Also ask if there's much of a difference wet or dry. Usually if you're just taking out the old and refilling it you'll leave a couple of ounces in the forks. If you refill it with the "dry" measurement you'll have a little too much in there. Then your ride will be too stiff and you can start blowing out the fork seals. If you have other shops in your area PJ1 makes a very good fork oil and it costs less. If the dealer starts thowing the warranty in your face start quoting them the "Magnuson-Moss" Act - it'll stop that crap right away.

Just did the forks on my 99 RK, different bike, but the forks don't look that different in size, could be tho. My manual says 9.2 ounces for each fork if I'm not mistaken. And says to use 5 weight, or 10 for stiffer ride. Then it says for extreme conditions you can use 15.

A local indy uses Bel-Ray High Performance Fork Oil, he suggested 30 weight for use in our high temp climate. Akthough as he suggested, it doesn't bounce as much on take-offs or when hitting the front brake, it's a tad stiffer than I like. They do make other grades tho, and I will most likely try a lighter one next change. Althought I do need to try less air in them, haven't done that yet...

Bel-Ray High Performance Fork Oil is a premium suspension fluid recommended for all motorcycle fork suspension systems.
Grades: 5W,7W,10W,15W,20W,30W

Just picked it up used, no manuals yet. I believe they are 39mm forks because I bought the front turn signal relocation kit for 41mm and it's too big, if that helps any.

I always run heavier weight fork oil in my bikes, too soft for my riding style with the stock weight (I think it's 5 weight?)

Same forks as my 02 FXD, the service manual sez 10.6 ozs., I went with 11 ozs. and changed up to BelRay 10w fork oil. I'm contempating going up to 15w next spring. I've got better shocks on the back and it seems the front needs the upgrade on the oil.

I add one oz. more then recommended to each side. I have never blown a seal out and when the ride deteriorates on the front end---I change the fork oil again. I change the fork oil in both of my bikes yearly.
