This is BS; Harley didn't change their product offerings by adding more baggers to accomodate older riders that wanted more comfort; they are selling more baggers because that is what the customer is demanding and where their revenue is coming from! Also, based on the pitiful economy and lack of jobs in the US today, only those who have already made their fortunes can truly afford a new Harley. HD is a business, and as such, they will focus production to the source of demand... i.e., those who have the desire for and money to purchase their products.
Baggers are great but too big and heavy, I ride a heritage springer and it's super comfortable, I put on between 200 to 400 miles a day and never had a smoother ride..being female, short, and a senior all I can is maybe lighter someday but never bigger.
65 here and love my Heritage. Got a Limited last summer for longer trips with the wife and actually like it better thaqn the Heritage. It takes the twisties much faster before dragging the floor boards - great handling bike.
66, so what? I've put over 30,000 miles on my FLSTCI since new, and have a number of long trips already planned for 2010. An ache here, a pain there, but nothing that a little extra-strength Tylenol can't fix.
Personally, I think (here's where I get to sound like an old guy) the whole trend toward baggers the past few years is just a fad. Most people who buy them hardly go anywhere. Check the mileage in used bike ads online. My Heritage Classic is set up perfectly, and for me, at least, is the ideal bike. I'll be keeping it until one of us has no engine left.
I will be 65 in Aug. I guess I need to slow down and cut back on the miles and I would if I could remember how to get home. I get lost a lot anymore. Thats my story. I like the bagger. Well the wind screen anyway. Have you ever hit a june bug in Georgia or love bugs in Flordia? Not to leave out a sandstorm in Calif. rain in Washington and the worst hail in Okla. That stuff hurts.
I know what you mean. Though I have an Ultra now, I can't wait to go back. Before this I never had any bags or windshield. This windshield is awful in the rain, blocking my vision and reflecting light, as well as taking away from my open ride.
RainX, MacGuire's plastic polish, FT1 polish - over 30-35 mph the shield clears itself. Wax doesn't usually work for that, although it can lessen the scratch images.
I'm next to Savannah on a trip and I can't believe all the bugs I collect in just 1/2 hour! I LOVE my windshield, don't love the taste of bugs.
