I would like to know if anyone has had any issues with blowouts of inner tubes on your bikes?
I had a blow out on the rear tire at 70mph on I-20 just two weeks ago (with my son on the back ) and the cause was the valve stem seperating from the tube. We are both fine from that but just this thursday i ended up in a ditch in Hot springs AR with a broken collar bone, coincedence I think not.
Harley has mysteriously come out with a redesigned tube and the changes were made to the vavle stem, i dont have the document but the service manager showed me a picture of it just today when i dropped off my wrecked sled.
Im trying to get this word out because i almost lost my life and my sons in one minute!! Also if this happens to anyone DO NOT HIT THE REAR BRAKE!! Let it coast and use the front brake. The bike will start to shake bad and the rear tire will loose all traction. I was very lucky
I think they know about this because the service manager admitted that he had seen it before. Also when i had the blowout i had just had my 10K service and new tires put on two days earlier. Sorry this isnt worded very well but i have one arm and on pain meds. Hope this will help some folks out a bit. Plus this may turn into a lawsuit as well.
Comments and suggestions welcome ofcourse
PS : I had my helmet on and i honestly think it saved my life because its scuffed up pretty good.
Damn collar bone is a bitch! 4 weeks into the healing of mine and I'm about there. Glad as heck thats all ya got and even better ta hear your son wasn't involved in that one! haven't heard of amy tube failures till yers.
Had a defective inner tube on the front tire of my 06 FXST. Luckly I was 2 blocks from home. Dealer came and picked up the bike and replaced tube under warranty.
What year and model of bike? Are all the tubes the same, and have they corrected the problem? I am curious as I am about ready for new rubber. Glad you are healing up and glad your Son is alright.
The new tube is supposed to fix it from what they said. I dont have the article and picture he showed me but im guessing its out there somewhere. I was hoping one of the mechanics on here could shed some light on the tube subject.
Two days after tire replacement is no coincidence. I would be contacting an attorney. Let him research it and decide who to go after. If it was a faulty tube/tire, he will go after the manufacturer. If it was an improper tire/tube installation by the dealer, he will go after the dealer. Either way, you deserve compensation for the damage to you and your bike. If you had full coverage insurance, a good attorney will work with the insurance company to ensure you recoup the largest award possible for the repair/replacement of your bike, your injuries, and any lost time from work.
Good luck!
