Boys and Girls, after doing some research I could not find many useful threads on trailers. I am going TDY (training) from WA to TX for two months this spring and would like to bring the bike with me. Any suggestions for some decent, reliable, and affordable trailers?
NOTE: Leave your stupid fcking opinions regarding 'trailering is for pussies blah blah' OUT of this thread. I don't care about what you think about me as it is difficult to get 200lbs of gear plus weapons onto a nightrain. Thank you.
Craigslist and multiple mc forums, trader magazines in your local area will turn something up. You have to look everyday, good deals don't last long. It's nice having an enclosed trailer for security as well.Like others said above one way rental from Penske or U Haul will get the job done.G.
+1 on craigs list. I've been trolling there for a utility trailer that I can also use to haul my bike when needed. Look for a drop-gate 5X8 or thereabouts with a steel mesh floor, tie-down posts, leaf suspension and full size tires. They pop up every once in a while for $700 to $800-ish. Oh, and a clean title so you can get it registered. Good luck.
you can try UHaul, but my experience is that they don't rent their motorcyle trailers one way. however, you could use one of their 5x8 open trailers. just secure the bike well. last spring, when I moved from San Diego to San Antonio. I found I could buy a trailer as cheap as renting a UHaul for the one way trip. then like a dummy, I sold it when I got here.. not realizing I may need it later. Now I need one, so I gotta buy another one. I found a lightweight (2000# max) 5x8 open trailer W/gate at Tractor Supply for $700.
where in Texas are you headed? if its around the San Antonio area, I'll be glad to show you some of the "better" rides this area has to offer. PM me.
I've been looking at craigslist a lot looking for a cheap enclosed trailer. You will need one for your return trip, so really it will probably be cheaper and wiser to buy then rent, then you can also use it later for your PCS, unless you want to bring it to Alaska and I can buy it from you for my own PCS.
BTW, I have never met an air force guy that could carry 200lbs of gear at one time, and are your weapons Numb-chucks, bow staffs and samurai swords? JK
