Default Quality vs Not so Much

I went to a swap meet here in Taylor Michigan yesterday (good time)
I was gawking at a Doherty A/C power pack set up, man this thing was the cats meow when it came to quality, the billet intake velocity stack a whole seperate peice was machined with what appeared an elliptical shape (very good for flow) and the finish was meticulous. The backing appeared to be machined billet and I could find NO flaws, I matched all the peices up and they were spot on. The external breathers were beautiful.
I asked "how much" the reply was $150. I could have cried when I looked back at the box and finally saw the writting "for TC88" (I have a TC96).
I came home and looked at my Arlen Ness big sucker and felt just like a "big sucker". the cast backing plate is just that a nasty casting, I ran my finger across the inlet and sure enough they put the cast split line right through it leaving flash (very bad for air flow), I could have went for this if they had atleast cleaned up the flash. All around pretty nasty unit (IMO).
Yes the Doherty is pricey but in this case you really get what you pay for.
From this point forward I am say NO to Arlen Ness parts.
Just my little rant!

You think you were mad then,...... wait til you find out that one would have fit your bike. (Unless you had FBW of course).

DOH!
Nothing like an informed shopper, yep I am feeling pretty "dumb" at this moment.
Well I sure wish I hadn't bought that brawler solo seat and bike lift now.
Thank you for pointing this out to me, I went to Doughtery site and sure enough it was PN 1240-TK on the box.

I have the same kind of bad luck at times. LOL

I do love my Doherty though. Just as you described.

Well, then just wait until you have the money again, and order it. Sounds like a very well made part. Good luck!

That's my plan *save up* and get it.
Outlaw, my vocabulary doesn't do the part enough justice, if you get a chance hold one in your hand and it will all come clear.
