Went to hook up my Battery Tender Jr. for the first time a few days ago. When I plugged it in no green or red light came on. So I tried another outlet. Well as I start to plug it in to the outlet the green light comes on and goes right back off when fully inserted. Tried the other outlet and it did the same thing. Is this an issue with the unit itself or could it be in the pigtail?? I just got this last year so it has very little use. Just wanted to check here before I call Deltran for a warranty issue.
Check your connections...on some of the models, if the tender does not read a battery, it will not display any lights....
+1
Mine, the light comes on, the second you plug it in, whether it is hooked to anything, or not. As such, I can use a multi-meter to verify 'output'.
Also,
Stop by the parts store, and grab yourself a tube of "Di-electric" grease.
USE it on all electrical connections as you work and dabble on your scoot. I even apply it to the headlight prongs, the tail light bulb base, etc.
The Tender can go bad. I had a relatively new one hooked up to a battery that I had removed from the bike, because I was rebuilding the engine. When I put everything back together, went to get the battery so I could fire up my new engine, and it was deader than hell. At some point, the Tender had failed, and deep-cycled the battery. It was fine when I checked it a week earlier. Rats!
Yup, most of the newer really good ones go through a diagnostic before firing up to regular charge mode. The small Schumacher, which automatically sets to even match the 6-volt on my old truck, takes extra time to sense everything.

I guess I should have clarified. It was hooked up to the bike when I plugged it in. When I plug the tender in the green light comes on just as the prongs are going into the outlet. But when pushed all the way in it goes back out.
Already checked and cleaned connection as well as applying dialectric grease. Guess I will give Deltran a call.
