Default H-D at london Motorcycle show 2010

Ok myseld and 2 friends flew to London last friday to visit the London motorcycle show and were looking forward to seeing the Harley stand. We entered the show and the first sight was this massive BMW Stand - Ver impressive indeed - Then Ducati , Triumph , Norton (yes nORTON) All with very impressive stands / bikes well presented - Then the Victory stand with al their bikes well presented and loads of staff to ask questions - we wandered around and found the Harley stand - I have to say it was not impressive at all - Dark / very few lights / looked like it had ben thrown together by some amatures - if I was not a Harley fan I would have been a lot more impressed with their newest rivals with presentation etc - In the UK they would have a lot of strong competition but have they lost the plot - They did have all the new models and the Fit Zone which was very good in which you could sit on a Fatboy and try all the variants of handle bars / foot controls and all the different seats.

Have Harley decided all they need is to be there to impress and get new customers.

I envy you being able to fly over to the show. Last time I was in London I went over to Kings Row Harley, and did a little shopping. They've got a great dealership there, and I was surprised by how many bikes were parked out front on weekday. It was packed. So they must be doing something right. I love that new Norton, and I think it would be a kick to have. But the price is about the same as new Road King. BTW, that is one sweet looking softie you've got in your sigpic. Very tastefully done. Not sure where you live, but if you ever get out to Montana, yell at me. I'd love to see that bike in person. Plus there's some great riding out here.

Thats funny that this was brought up. I went to the IMS (Int. Motorcycle Show) in Cleveland a couple weeks ago. I dont expect anything over-the-top in Cleveland but this year I was very disapointed with the HD display. Usually they have some cool "factory-customized" models and not to mention you could see the display from far away. I nearly walked half way through the display before I realized it was HD!! To me these types of shows are what its all about; attract the new crowds and preserve the integrity with current owners. They definitely need to step the advertising up IMO

Ditto on that new Norton--fabulous. Triumph is doing something right. Their U.S. sales were UP last year while the industry was DOWN 40%. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Harley had better pull up their knickers and get moving.

Hey FatBob, you know I was wondering when I sent that last response....."Why would a guy put his name as FatBob, and have a Softail? We're all going to be watching now to see your new FatBob. You've got to admit that's one gorgeous softie, whether it's yours or not. You're welcome over here anytime. We've got some great riding, and while I don't drink beer anymore, I'd really enjoy the chat about Harleys from both sides of the pond.

I think in the UK HD has put its faith in 'Judgement Day', I dont know if you've heard of it but its a tavelling circus of HD motorcycles. You book yourself a day, turn up and take any HD out for the day. I dont know how many takers there have been but know of one rider who ordered an FXDC and then took a Softail out on a judgement day, result he was pissed off when he got his FXDC because of the differencein ride and solid feeling. The Guys a dick as he's not bothered with his bike, just lets the crap build up, he's like a small child not getting its own way.
