But I've also heard stories from owners of other jackets (Fox Creek comes to mind) that have done the same thing. Hell, I've seen a guy go down at 60 mph with a $150 leather and no road rash. My point is there are plenty of jackets that will do that.

As far as broken bones. I'm pretty sure that if your arm or shoulder twist a certain way, or slams into something hard enough, there's no leather jacket that will prevent a broken bone. Armor on the other hand probably will.

I could care less if my jacket lasts 60 years. I won't even be alive then. Hand it down to a family member? Ok....that's cool, but that may not be important to some. It's not to me. Not to mention that there are probably plenty of other jackets that will last as long. Custom fit? Sure that's nice, but again, to many it's not worth the price. I've had numerous leathers over the years that weren't custom made and I can honestly say that none of them were uncomfortable where it ruined my ride. Actually many were extremely comfortable.

That said, wear what you want and don't criticize someone for wearing something you wouldn't. And don't boast about how you can afford to spend a grand on something when you know plenty of people who can't. Good for you if you can and nothing to be ashamed of if you can't. I'm sure there are plenty who can but would just rather put their money into something else. That's cool too. I personally think I can get as much longevity from another type of jacket for half the price. If I'm wrong and it only lasts 20 years, I'll just buy another one.

Buy what you want, wear what you want and don't worry so much what others are doing as long as it doesn't affect you.
Well said.

Regarding your wiseass comment about me "shooting my mouth off",

I suggest you re-read (if you really can think), my post again,

The title of the thread states only "Leather Jacket"

Not "Langlitz Leather Jacket"

You cannot logically respond to my original post so you use stupidity in commentary,

I simply stated the obvious, nothing more,

You, instead, use ignorance,

Seems to me it is you, who is, "Shooting Your Mouth Off"

My only injuries were some scrapes and bruises all from the waist down because all I had for protection was a pair of Levis. Not a mark from the waist up. That 50 year old horsehide jacket totaly protected me. No broken bones, scrapes or even bruises. All that happened to the jacket was it got a bit scraped up with lots of vertical lines from the rain groves in the pavement. You obviously have no experience falling off a bike at high speeds wearing a QUALITY jacket. There is a reason these jackets last 100 years! You need to step away from your computer and go ride your bike before you make even more a fool of yourself! Get a life man!

I have a Langlitz jacket. I bought it in 1984 for $375. I got it because Im 6' and weigh in arond 340. Back then jacket options where few. I got one tailor made. My only mistake was I picked heavy leather, the thing is heavy. I LOL when I saw a $1000 mentioned. My coat is great and I do love it but a Grand? I don't think so. I would look around at other tailor made jackets, unless you can just buy an off the rack that fits the way you want. Wish I could.

Damn, this chit is still going on over a friggin' leather jacket. I never realized jackets could be so controversial. I think I'll just dump all my leather jackets and just wear HD tees. No riding below 65 degrees, of course.

My kevlar underwear has more protection then your jacket. Then I could wear Poser clothes just to look like you.

$375 in 1984 = $764 in 2009. That's just calculating for inflation. Add in 25+ years of all the other things that go up to make it more expensive, plus I'm sure they have 2-3 more employees now, and then a little thing called brand value......

~$950 sounds about right.
