I just purchased a new street bob and trying to decide, I like my legs stretched out, so I will probably go with the forward controls, but I like the idea of having two positions, (mid-controls with highway pegs).
Has anyone put on the forward controls themselves or had it done? Does it take long?
I have to use Forwards. Nothing against Mids, but my knees are shot from bailing down ropes and marching 20 miles with a 40lb ruck. I cant keep my legs like that on Mids for more than just a couple minutes. Even on my forwards i usually have had to get kits to extend them out an additional 2" or so. Doing the same to my '10 W.G. Im not the tallest at 6'2", but i gotta have my legs stretched out.
I don't know. when you see pics of guy's riding fwd. ctrl. machines they look like a horiz. v (<). I have a 04 fatboy. I like the riding pos. of the floorboards. they seem to fit a wider height range. what I'd like to see is a peg & pedal kit (sim. to j-brk fl pegs) that puts the foot peg about in the same pos. of the rear floorboard brkt. I've been researching this for a while. I guess it's time to buy some steel and break out the heli-arc. suggestions are welcomed.

Reason: symatics
I did the mids with highway pegs for a while, but when I installed forwards I wondered why I waited so long. I love them for riding comfort plus they just look cool which is the most important part!
no doubt looks play a big part in our bikes. I like to keep my bike clean yet purposeful. sometimes I think we for go safety to look or be cool. I'm sure the motor co. has safety at the top of their designing ques. that is evident on their choice of fwd. ctrls. for their prod. bikes. ie. sftl. std's. & nite trains. when I buy parts for my fatboy I look for fit, safety & mfg. qualities. when I follow along these lines the part usually ends up looking ok also.

I'm w/you. grew up riding dirt bikes also. thank god because this gave me riding techniques that street only riders don't possess. I bet if you talk to the guy's that road race the bigger % of them have their roots in dirt bike riding/racing. as far as peg loc., your right. you cannot weight the pegs or move around on the bike with your legs stretched out like your at home relaxing on the lazyboy. I love to RIDE my bike. speed shifting, hitting the apex etc.. you can't do that w/your legs way out in front of you. I'm not knocking other's way of riding. like I said b4, I like to RIDE my bike.

Speed shifting? Hitting apexes? You realize this is a Harley forum? LOL. You could but rearsets on a big twin and you still ain't gonna be speed shifting and hitting apexes. Just not in the geometry of the bikes. Now a Buell......

My V-Rod will handle that very well. Well scraping the Pegs is a bit nerving but hey . This is why I went with this Bike it's the Best of all Worlds. 9200 rev limit has it's benefits
And Yes I do come from a Dirt and Sportsbike background.
I have a long inseam. Mids on a Super Glide were uncomfortable, even worse with the lower Street Bob. On Sportsters it was nearly impossible to ride on the mids. Forwards were much better on all, and on my Super Glide I added heel rests to make them near perfect.
