Ok I amnew to th orum here. I have a 2001 heritage softail. Recently when i turn on the ignition switch the turn signals flash. Whle its runnning the red key lights stays on. I have just finished installing a hoppe industries fairing along with a new hid headlight. I dont know if i should upgrade my stator? whats the problem.
Sounds like the alarm to me. Silent alarm, lights only. Turn signals blink when arming or disarming, key light lit when alarm is on. Check yer manual for proper sequence and arm/disarm method.
thats what i thought. but tonight on the way home the engine light came on. The other day the red key didnt come on till i turned on my headlight. same with the engine light today. I am wondering if i just need to upgrade the stator. Maybe the voltage is going down.
Start with battery connections. Check all wiring connectors. It may just be something simple.
Also double check the wiring to the faring you just installed. Many people have pinched wires during the install. And that or loose battery connection can throw off an engine code which would cause the engine light to show.
Put a voltmeter on the battery connections while running and see what it's pushing out, compare to specs in manual. To check the stator you have to pull the leads and check ohm resistance as I recall.
But I agree with Crok.......start troubleshooting simple first. If you just did some work on fairing, my $$ is on a mismatched wire in one of the connectors.
Everything checks out good on the volt meter. Do you think the Hid kit is drawing 2 many amps and it just makes it flash a code. I wonder if putting a bagger stator in would resolve the issue. also a new magic box
