Default my two cents of windshield knowledge

I've had 2 different height's of windshields on my bikes and the current RK came with a windsheild that I could just see over the top, I had thought they installed the wrong windshield on the bike and complained to the dealer after they dropped the bike off but was informed that this is the correct height according to Harley, this windsheild height is the better of the 2 height's : one being taller and not able to look through (83' Police Special & 03 Softail Anniv. model) and the second being able to just look over (09 RoadKing). The taller windshield during early season and late season riding could at times become dew covered and unless you COMPLETELY dry it off, you could start off down the road and the damn windshield would get fogged up again, this would usually happen in the morning or late night after coming out of a bar, not a real big problem but enough to be a pain in the a** because you can't see where you are riding for the first few minutes. Just my opinion though, because even with the windshield I have now I still get hit in the head with rocks and bugs so I'm not trying to persuade either way, just trying to give some pro's and con's from my memories of both types.

A lot of good advice here. I use the Harley quick disconnect windshield with the top level with the tip of my nose. Seems to work very well for me. Legally, in Illinois anyway, in order for the windshield to qualify as eye protection, it must be at that height. Not sure about other states.

I am looking for one for my 99 Sportster as well. If anyone has any recommendations, I appreciate the info as far as manufacturer/dealer suggestions.

Thanx, R Dowdy

Memphis Shades customer service is top notch. I like the height where I can see over it in my riding position. Also I like clear, especially at night or in the rain.

If you are looking over the top of your windshield, it really does not matter except for appearance. I have a light grey. Get the one you like.

You'll see this debated endlessly on this forum. I prefer to be able to look over the top of mine. One thing to think of though, consider what your riding position is when you've been on the bike for a while. When I sit on my bike in the garage, I'm looking just over the top of the windshield, perfect! However, last summer, on our way to and from Sturgis, I found myself looking through the windshield because on long trips I tend so slouch down and back a little, and am not sitting as tall.

Thanks for the advice guys. 20 inches seems to be high enough around the nose area, and it is adjustable. I am getting the light gray tinted version with the black brackets. I would of wanted a dark gray tint since it looks bad *** and matches my blacked out bike, but I'm not sure yet how I will be looking over it. In any case I can always order a replacement shield later on and get a blacked out version.
